Mrs. Deborah J. Carney is an intern Licensed Clinical Mental Health Clinician attending Rivier College graduate school of Mental Health Counseling. Deborah will complete her 1000 hours of internship training in collaboration with Mo Anne Shyne, M.A., LCMHC earning her LCMHC with a graduate certification in Multi- Cultural Counseling in the Spring of 2012. Deborah has earned both a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Associates in Psychology from Hesser College.

Deborah has an extensive background working as an assistant in physical, occupational and speech rehabilitation therapy in rehabilitative units within long term care facilities. She later worked with individuals with developmental and mental health disabilities and earned a Direct Support Certification and Associates degree in Human Services from Northern Essex Community College. Deborah also taught at Northern Essex Community College in their Continuing Education evening program for six years.

Deb has managed residential group programs and actively worked with the Department of Developmental Services of Massachusetts in many capacities advocating for clients health and human rights. Additionally, she helped bring a new independent residential living program from its inception to the ribbon cutting ceremony, this program being a model of the very first of its kind in the state of Massachusetts. Deborah has been a speaker at Direct Support Care Conferences around the state of Massachusetts and has also introduced the new Commissioner, Elin Howe of the Executive Office of Health and Human Services of the Department of Developmental Disabilities.

Deborah acts as a guardian and Rogers monitor for one intellectually disabled person. Deborah and her husband, Dave, also share their home with two individuals with dual diagnosis developmental and mental health disabilities. Deborah also serves in an active capacity for the Jeanne Gieger Crisis Center in Newburyport, Massachusetts as a Hotline Crisis worker dealing with individuals and families in distress experiencing Domestic Violence and Abuse emergencies.
